There are many sports around the world and whilst you may think you know a lot of them, chances are you haven't heard of some of these more wacky ones.
World Beard and Moustache Championships:
There isn't much running around involved but the effort of growing some of the most weird and wonderful moustaches in the world is classed as a sport. Men with elaborate beards and moustaches come together every two years for the World Beard and Moustache Championships. The competition involves men with lengthy, highly-styled facial hair. The first Championship was held in Höfen-Enz, Germany, in 1990.
Camel Racing:
Popular throughout The Middle East and Australia, Camel Racing is a popular sport which runs between October and April. Instead of riding the Camels the owners drive alongside them honking their horns and making noise to encourage the camels to run faster. There is no betting on the racing like with horses but owning a winning camel can be good for business!
Tuna Tossing:
Another bizarre sport played in Australia, every year at the Tunarama Festival in Port Lincoln, Australia. Men and women 16 years and older fight it out to toss their tuna the farthest, hoping to win a share of AU$3,000. The 10kg frozen tuna can be thrown in any way and the record is a huge 25 metres! For aspiring young athletes there is a prawn tossing competition for those 5-10 years of age.
Quidditch:
Yes it's exactly what you're thinking, Quidditch, straight out of Harry Potter; there aren't many changes besides the fact that magical flying brooms aren't allowed! Imagine people running with broom sticks instead, trying to get a ball through a hoop and avoid being hit by an opponent's bludgeon!. Even the snitch is recreated in a person dressed in gold carrying tennis balls that have to be caught to win the game. This Harry Potter enthused sport is played at more than 300 colleges in America so it is definitely a wacky sport growing in popularity!
