Unsolved Ancient Mysteries (Part 3)

The Lady of the Spiked Throne:

The Lady of the Spiked Throne is a mysterious unique artefact which scientists have dated to 2700 BC! That’s nearly 5000 years ago! The object appears to be a large boat or chariot covered in spikes and boasting a bull’s head at its front. There are 15 people in the vehicle with traces of colour on them (yellow, black and red) and seem to form some kind of procession. Whether it is a funeral boat, triumphal celebration post victory or the flagship of a navy remains unclear. Some of the male figures however have the same decorations round their neck as on their head which gives them the appearance of servants rather than soldiers. The female figure at the back of the boat/chariot under what appears to be a canopy is a woman seated on a spiked throne, hence the name given to the object. Massimo Vidale, who has spent much of his career studying the object, concluded that it was most likely made by the ancient Indus but he could not say for what purpose. There is no evidence yet discovered to show use of four wheeled vehicles in Ancient Indu civilization so a boat is the most probable conclusion. As to the object’s purpose theories range from ritual use to being used as sone kind of tool. My personal conclusion is that it represents a queen and her entourage travelling across the sea at the head of her army. Whatever your conclusion, no one knows for sure, it’s yet another ancient mystery of history!

Ancient Underwater Structures:

As recently as 2003 scientists were amazed to discover a structure underneath the Sea of Galilee in Israel. In 2013 Shmuel Marco published the findings and, speaking to news channel CNN, said they had found what appeared to be a Bronze Age statue on the ocean floor which, in that area of the world, would date it to some 2000-12000 years old. Marco theorised that the structure was some kind of marine nursery caring for plant and wildlife in the area but most archaeologists agree that it was most likely a land structure that sank to the seabed over time, perhaps as a result of one of the area’s frequent earthquakes. The structure is shaped like a cone and is estimated to weigh some 60,000 tons (that’s a lot)! In size it’s double that of Stonehenge and its size alone infers it was not a marine sanctuary. 2000-12000 years ago mankind did not have the means to build to that size underwater and such a heavy structure could not be lowered down. Archaeologist Dani Nadel noted its similarity to other structures in the area which were burial mounds but due to the overwhelming size of this one it is hard to say what it might actually have been. A giant cone shaped structure dating to the Bronze Age found at the bottom of the Sea of Galilee, no one knows why it’s there or what it is; yet another ancient mystery of history!
