Top 5 Ways to Make Money this Summer

Top 5 Ways to Make Money this Summer

We all need a little bit of help with our money, right? To make it go that little bit further? Well, happily the summer holidays are approaching, which gives us plenty of time to try and get some extra cash in. Here’s a little list of good things to do that’ll get you some dough!

1. Obviously, the first point has to be get a summer job. If you’re over 16, then legally you have the right to work. Getting a job is easier said than done, though – you need to start applying early if you want to get the best choice of jobs. As well as being a steady source of income, a summer job will look great on your CV, and it’ll give you experience that you’ll need in the future. Try looking at your local holiday parks and tourist attractions, if the supermarket and restaurant jobs have already been snapped up. Hand in your CV to places around town, and ask around to see if anybody knows of a vacancy – and if ever you’re bored at work, just think of the money.

2. Get a paper round. Some of you may have had a paper round from a young age, so it’s a good source of income. Though it’s likely you’ll have to get up a bit earlier in the mornings than you’d like, it’s a decent way to get a little bit of cash in over the summer.

3. Sell your old things. Many towns and cities have car boot sales, and if your parents are planning on doing one, you can bring some of the toys you don’t play with anymore, or the clothes you’ve grown out of. Alternatively, try selling it online! You have to be 18 to set up an account of your own, but you can always get your parents to help you and use their account. Sites like eBay and Gumtree are designed for second-hand items. You can also use these sites to make money from your creativity – if you like jewellery making, sewing, knitting, woodwork, mechanics, pottery etc, you can sell your ‘custom’ and ‘hand made’ creations online. A site that’s particularly useful for this purpose is Etsy.

4. Offer to help out family/friends with chores. Lots of people will be going away on holiday this summer, and they’ll need somebody to keep an eye on their house or look after their pet. It might be worth asking if they’d be willing to pay you to do this instead of sending their pet to a kennel – you can do it for a fraction of the price, and it’s nice work for you, if you like animals!

5. Online surveys. Some online survey companies will offer a bit of money in return for you completing one of their surveys – it might take a bit of time, but you don’t have to go anywhere and you can do it at a time that suits you.

There we have it! Although a summer job is the best way to get a steady income, hopefully this list shows you that it’s not the only way to make a bit of dosh this summer. Go forth and prosper!
