Ticket Trouble
Exquisitely, the sun shone down on the streets of London, glistening brightly in a sea of fluffy marshmallow clouds. Every single house stood as still as a statue, as the people were outside enjoying the sunshine. Beaming, children looked as elated as they would be in seventh heaven, having the best time. However, this was not the case for the Jones family.
They had decided to spend lots and lots of money on a holiday to Hawaii so they could have some top quality time together. Can you imagine spending that much money on ONE trip? Infuriated, Mrs Jones waited for her children James, Jonathan and Jasmine to come downstairs. Finally, when everyone was as tired as sloths, they checked one last time and discovered they had misplaced their tickets.
Eager, each child volunteered to go. Mrs Jones had a difficult time choosing but she finally decided on James, her biggest and strongest son.
James bellowed:
“Mummy, mummy, let me go,
I definitely think I know,
I’ll find every one,
As fast as lightning, I’ll show you Mum
I’ll find each ticket you’ll see,
Then you will be proud of me.
Mrs Jones thought for a while but finally replied:
“Fine,fine, you look,
Use every trick in the book
Search everywhere, high and low,
Go to every place you know,
But if you don’t find it in time,
All your pocket money will be mine.”
Apprehensive about losing all his money, James ran up and down the house, under every bed and in every cupboard.
“1 minute to go!” shouted Mr Jones, hoping his favourite son would find the precious tickets…
But that was not the case, for at 5 seconds, James hadn’t found a single ticket. “5,4,3,2,1!” boomed Mrs Jones, as happy as a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. She had now claimed £500!! James was exceedingly sorrowful as he was saving to buy himself a phone.
Everyone wondered who was going to go next. Suddenly, Jonathan, the smartest son wanted to go. He asked:
“Mummy, mummy, let me go
I definitely think I know,
I’ll find every one,
As fast as lightning, I’ll show you mum,
I will find each ticket you’ll see,
Then you will be proud of me.”
Mrs Jones knew that Jonathan would use his academic skills to find the tickets. She said to the son:
“Fine,fine, you look,
Use every trick in the book
Search everywhere, high and low,
Go to every place you know,
But if you don’t find it in time,
All your pocket money will be mine.”
Jonathan didn’t run around like a maniac, he stood in front of his relatives, thinking of where the tickets might be, but after a while he slowly walked upstairs. He thought the tickets would be in his parents’ bedroom. Worrisome, he searched in cupboard, on the windowsill and under the bed. Anxious, he looked at his watch. Annoyingly, the time was 14:59. His turn, which was not going exceptionally well, ended at 15:00. There was no use. As sad as everyone else, he trudged downstairs, making everyone even more disappointed. By this time, everyone had given up hope, but Jasmine squeaked:
“Mummy, mummy, let me go
I definitely think I know,
I’ll find every one,
As fast as lightning, I’ll show you mum,
I will find each ticket you’ll see,
Then you will be proud of me.”
Mrs Jones didn’t have any other choice. Reluctant, she let her youngest daughter try to find the tickets for holiday. She murmured:
“Fine,fine, you look,
Use every trick in the book
Search everywhere, high and low,
Go to every place you know,
But if you don’t find it in time,
All your pocket money will be mine.”
Jasmine scurried into the parlour in the adjacent room. In under an astonishing 20 seconds, she came out holding 5 plane tickets. Her relatives asked her where she found them and she proudly replied: “Under the sofa.” The other members of the family felt as dumb as donkeys.
In less than 24 hours, they were in Hawaii, lying in the sun and having the best time in their lives. There is a moral of great importance in this story:
THE BIGGEST ISN’T THE BEST!!
