The Winter Queen

The Winter Queen

Squirrels and birds began to gather delicious nuts and berries to save for their children, as winter began to draw in. Robins with large, furry, red chests clutched the branches tightly with their small, sharp claws and chirped sweetly. The soft, white balls of rabbits rolled out of their burrows and spikey hedgehogs with damp, moist noses crawled cautiously out into the daylight. All the secret wood animals gathered outside to wait for the Winter Queen to arrive.

In a matter of moments, the beautiful Winter Queen arrived. Her snow white horses pulled sharply to a halt and she stepped out, her long, draping gown billowing around her. A small, teased, sprayed, silver-blonde bob sat neatly on top of her head. Her shimmering eyes glimmered and sparkled as she let out a shiny, gleaming beam which practically wrapped around her head, she slowly raised her ivory wand; which had a peculiar diamond stuck on the top, and immediately, the diamond sent out billions of dazzling rainbows across the sky.

A few minutes later, small snowflakes began to drift softly downwards and the Winter Queen’s horses snorted out chilly frost. With a shriek of delight, the animals danced about happily and in the blink of an eye, the whole wood was carpeted in an astounding blanket of snow. Suddenly, the Winter Queen, quickly so that nobody noticed, winked at me with a glittery eye. I winked back, delighted. As I looked up, I saw that the tops of the firs were covered in cold snow and the smell of rich, tasty pastry began to fill my nostrils from a town nearby. When I looked back down, I saw the bouncing deer bounding around, their hooves crunching in the snow, leaving fresh footsteps on the path.

The Winter Queen played with everybody and helped the animals carve a snowman. But it was time for the Winter Queen to go, as she had already done her part. So with a silvery laugh, she shook the reigns and the horses sped away rapidly, spraying snow in a fountain of white dust, just like glitter...
