The Strongest Animals Alive Part 1

The Strongest Animals Alive Part 1

‘Earth is a planet of extremes, extreme places, and extreme animals, but some are more extreme than others’.  Based on this quote, a documentary entitled ‘The Strongest Animals Alive’ sought to count down the top ten extremely strong creatures which inhabit the earth and this article will summarise its fascinating list!

10. Bears

Bears absolutely adore working out in the wilderness – who needs a gym right? The human body has more than 650 diverse muscles, ranging in size (one of our muscles in a fraction of the size of a flea!). Doing excessive amounts of exercise – no matter how rewarding – will never give you any more muscles than the ones you already have, but your muscles can grow. Half of a bear’s weight is pure muscle so it is not wonder they are so strong – all those muscles consume a lot of energy so bears need a lot of food!

9. Muscles

This animal is so strong that it is called the muscle! The muscle fights against the tough waves which splash against rocks with their tail and as the shellfish gets older it grows the strongest beards in the world; its secret relies in its hair!

8. Gorillas

At number eight we have a creature which is usually seen on television as a scary monster: the gorilla. We are remarkably similar to gorillas yet they are much, much stronger than us as not even the strongest people alive can compare their strength to that of a gorilla! When gorillas fight it is a short but vicious battle that gets straight to the point.

7.  Anacondas

Number seven in the countdown of strong animals is the strongest in the Amazon:  the anaconda. This snake can even kill a crocodile; they typically catch their by biting and tightening up. There are different types of muscles: skeleton muscles, which we can control with the bones of our skeleton (snakes and humans have these), smooth muscles take longer to contact but don’t tire as easily (like the muscles found in our gut). There is very reason to be afraid of this snake: as the heaviest snake in the world it can weigh more than three men and continuously grows so that it can actually be long enough to wrap itself round a school bus!

6. Eagles

At number six we have the animals with some of the strongest feet on earth, feet so powerful they can even crush bones: the eagle. The eagle can carry up to four times its own weight; its huge muscles make it an extraordinary bird.

5. Oxes

The fifth contender is the ox, a green machine which proves to be incredibly strong. For 6000 years the animal has been used to carry heavy objects but in the wild its cousins have used their strength for other reasons, like fighting for females. Our ancestors must have been impressed by their natural strength as they became the main preference of transporting heavy tools, a pair of oxes can pull more than 900 kilograms on rugged terrain and oxes don’t cost like tractors do as their fuel is free!
