Welcome to part 2 of my series on restricted locations around the world. Be sure to go read part one if you haven’t done already, otherwise, let’s get straight into it!

Club 33, Disneyworld, United States of America

Like me you probably know Disneyworld as the magical land of your favourite characters, rides and all around great fun, but with something so big, so powerful, and so full of money, it’s not surprising to hear that it has a secret club reserved for only the most elite. Club 33 of Disneyworld has a 14 year waiting list to join and if you are accepted it has a £26,000 joining fee and £18,000 annual fee. With such a restricted club only an incredibly rich elite few people could have access and so, for the majority of us, we’ll never enter club 33 at Disneyworld. I don’t know what it contains, but there’s not much better than the public area of Disneyworld if you ask me!

Snake Island, Brazil

In contrast to Disney, this is somewhere you probably don’t want to visit! Brazil has many beautiful islands and beaches but the aptly named snake Island is home to, you guessed it, lots of snakes, 4000 of them in fact. If that wasn’t off putting enough they happen to be a collection of the world’s deadliest snakes whose venom is powerful enough to melt human flesh! The Brazilian government has very sensibly banned visitors to the island given the danger.

Fort Knox, Kentucky, United States of America

You may well have heard of Fort Knox, or heard phrases such as ‘it’s not Fort Knox’ or ‘as impenetrable as Fort Knox’. Unlike Area 51, Fort Knox’s purpose is well known, and that is to guard the US gold bullion reserve as well as various other treasures worth a lot of money. Good luck getting in though as the security includes 30,000 soldiers and attack helicopters. Even if you were somehow able to surpass those defences, the actual gold vault is protected by 22 ton blast-proof doors which can easily withstand explosions from any conventional weapons. Needless to say, the public are forbidden to even visit!

Ise Grand Shrine, Japan

The Ise Grand Shrine is a religious location dedicated to the Japanese sun goddess Amaterasu. The Inner shrine contains a holy artefact known as the sacred mirror which embodies honesty and knowledge. Due to the holiness of the place there are no security checkpoints, feeling that it would negate the holiness and naturalness of the shrine, located in a clearing amidst a large forest. The public are not actually permitted to enter the shrine but can wander the forest around freely and many come on pilgrimage to the holy spot. Unfortunately due to the lack of security some malicious people over the years have entered the shrine and burnt the artefact, stolen it, damaged it and even thrown it into the sea. Incredibly though in all instances the artefact has been found and safely returned to the shrine!
