Paramore

Paramore

Paramore are a 3 piece pop-punk powerhouse. Frontwoman Hayley Williams is known for her powerful voice and ever-changing hair. The other two are guitarists, and their names are Jeremy Davis and Taylor York. Paramore’s hits include “Misery Business”, “Still Into You”, “Now” and “Ignorance”. They started out very young, and it’s been great to see how much they’ve changed over the past ten years. They are the flagship band of indie label Fueled by Ramen, and possibly one of the most famous female-fronted rock bands of all time. Ladies and gentlemen… We. Are. Paramore!

By the way, that’s something Hayley Williams says to the crowd during live shows to get them fired up. It’s something she’s done ever since the band started touring. Paramore was formed when the members were in their school days, but they wrote their first song together in the year 2004. The band are from the Deep South of America, specifically Tennessee. When you listen to them, you can hear the country and western influence coming out. If you grow up in the land of Dolly Parton, how could you not?

Their debut album was called “All We Know is Falling”, released in 2005. Hard to believe that’s already ten years ago! Songs like “Emergency” and “Pressure” were some of Paramore’s first official music videos, and my do they look young! The video for “Emergency” became so famous that the outfit Hayley wears is now in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As a result, Paramore became popular on the indie rock scene, but they had yet to break into the mainstream.

Then came the album Riot! In 2007. The band had changed its look, becoming less grungy and slightly more colourful and energetic. The song “Misery Business” had an epic music video, depicting every high-schooler’s dream of making the school bully look stupid in front of everybody. That, and the song was so awesome you couldn’t NOT enjoy it. The song peaked only at number 17 in the UK, but don’t worry. The best is yet to come for Paramore!

Do you remember 2008, when teenage girls everywhere went crazy for Twilight? The film starring Robert Pattinson as a sparkly vampire, and Kristen Stewart as an awkward teenager, living in a chilly village in North America? Well, regardless of what you thought of the film, the soundtrack was pretty damn good. Paramore’s song “Decode” became one of the more successful songs.

Then came another new album in 2009. This one was called “Brand New Eyes”, and the music style had changed from light-hearted pop punk to a more severe, hard rock feel. Fans of the band think this is due to the rising tension between Hayley and band member Josh Farro, as they began to have bigger differences. This all came to a head when Josh Farro and his brother Zac left the band, leaving only Hayley, Taylor and Jeremy. There was a lot of drama at this time, and out of the turmoil came the band’s most recent album, the self-titled Paramore. This came out in 2013. Paramore have fully launched themselves into the mainstream, and I’m sure you’re very well aware of the song “Still Into You”, which charted at number 15 here and number 1 on the rock charts. They’re about to embark on a tour of the US, but they also did a huge and aptly-named “Monumentour” with Fall Out Boy recently. That pretty much brings you up to date – the history of Paramore!
