Nightmare
I was all alone in the house. My parents had just gone out for dinner, leaving me with my older sister, but then (without telling anyone) she left to meet up with her friends. I had nothing to do, so I was stuck in my bedroom. My parents had turned off all the lights in the house, apart from in my bedroom, and I was really hungry. However, all the food was downstairs, and the lights were turned off downstairs.
I mean, it’s not like I’m scared of the dark. It’s just that I really … really don’t like the … er… dark. That’s why I stay in my bedroom and never leave. Even if I’m so hungry. Even if I need the toilet.
Just as I was about to start my meditation (for my fear, which I call the'scaredofthedarkitis'), I heard scratching outside my window. Thank goodness I had my curtains shut, since I did not want to see any sharp-clawed zombie coming in through my window. But still, my heart started beating faster. Suddenly, there was a creak from next door, and I nearly jumped out of my skin in fright. Why, oh, why did I leave my door open? Now, I saw this big, black, gaping hole where I would see everything happening. I had visions of zombies and monsters coming from everywhere, surrounding me and attacking me with their sharp claws.
Now, I couldn’t even move from my spot. I was frozen. What had forced me to move myself was a sound from downstairs. Why, oh, why was it from downstairs? I felt like jumping out of the window, but the zombies were there.
Then came a serious sound that made my eyes widen and the blood rush to my head because of how hard my heart was beating. I heard the sound of the front door opening. Then footsteps. Going upstairs.
But then, I thought, I need to live, because this Saturday it’s Liv’s birthday party, and everyone knows she’s the most popular girl in the year. So, instead, I went into 'Survival Mode'. Rapidly, I tiptoed my way over to the other side of the room, turned off the lights in my room, grabbed my big toy teddy bear (because it was the nearest thing I could find in my room) and shut myself in my wardrobe.
Opening the wardrobe door slightly, I could just make out that the black figure of the monster was in my room already! Eek! My breathing became rapid.
I waited, until it was close to the wardrobe, when I suddenly rushed out like Tarzan, yelling, and started tackling the monster with all my might! On the head, on the legs, on the backside!
I kept on going, getting breathless, until I finally heard, “KELSIE! STOP!” (That’s my name, by the way), and I stopped abruptly.
As soon as I realized who it was, I gasped. It was my mum! With a not-so-impressed expression on her face.
“Mum? What are you doing here?”
“I came back because I forgot my phone. More importantly, what were you thinking? Is it some kind of joke?” she shrieked.
“I was … um… playing,” I replied lamely, fidgeting and going red.
“At sixteen years old? In the dark! Really!,” my mum walked over and switched on the lights. I instantly recognized the supposed ‘zombies’ were really just a few branches scratching against the window.
“Kelsie, what on earth’s the matter now?” she asked, when I started hopping about.
“I… um … I need the loo.”
