My Sister Alex

My Sister Alex

I love my sister Alex, but she is a mischief maker, a troublesome girl. I’m Roxy; short for Roxanne, and I have glasses, so people make fun of me and say that I’m a goody-goody. It’s not not true, because I really am a goody-goody. I listen to the teacher’s every word, I work in silence and I always finish the work first. The teacher, Miss Walsh, always gives me a ‘you’re a star!’ sticker and she moved me up one cloud ahead of the others. We have a giant chart behind our teacher’s desk and it has a display of twenty clouds going up in steps towards heaven, which was cut out neatly in gold lettering and there are thirty angels. Everyone was on either the second or first cloud, while I was on the fifth cloud.

My sister, however, was being her usual self and moved the angel with her name on it to the nineteenth cloud, behind the teacher’s back and drew silly moustaches on everyone else’s angels at break. Everyone’s except mine. Because I am her younger sister and she is my older sister.

But this time, Mum told us to be good from now on and I didn’t even try because I knew that I was always good, almost perfect, Miss Walsh says. But now, I was trying even harder to be the exact opposite of me, so that all the others in the class wouldn’t bully me anymore.

Meanwhile, my sister Alex was also trying to be the exact opposite of herself. But even though she tried to be good and kind and helpful, she still got told off and shouted at. For example, she was sitting and reading in the school Library when the Librarian was tidying and she saw a pile of books near her. She shot up when she saw her chance. I think she was just trying to help out a little with the sorting out. But the minute she touched them, our Librarian started shouting and panicking.

“Goodness, no, Alex, don’t you dare go picking them up and having them for yourself! I have just finished sorting them out in to alphabetical order! Now hurry off, Alex, get out of here before I get your teacher!”

“But I haven’t done anything. I was just trying to–” argued Alex.

     “No buts! Get out!”

And no matter how hard I had tried to be bad, I had always succeeded in being helpful, the exact thing that Alex was trying to be. I guess that we have to deal with our lives and just carry on! In case you’re wondering, the moral of this story is that, no matter who you are, you just have to be yourself!
