House of Cleopatra

House of Cleopatra

“I’m sooo excited! 1 more stop and I will be at my new school.”

She was tingling inside. How she couldn’t wait! In a rush, she turned to look at the sat navigation as it spoke.

The car began to slow down as it would if you were to reach a destination. There, standing in front of us was the palace of nightmares. A big black tower sealed in bricks ready to collapse at any time.

“Out of the car!” He instructed Lowly, I got out of the car.

This is it. New beginning. New friends. New school.

Knock. Knock. Knock. “Anybody there?” She called out.

Nobody answered. She cross checked her map. Was this the right location?

It was until I noticed the door was ajar. I checked the letter once more to make sure this was the right building, before going inside. My curiosity began to bloom as I entered a hallway filled with (what looks like) valuable antiques to decorate the narrow passageway.

“Hello!” I repeated. On my right, was I door; without thinking I opened. “Who do you think you are going into my office?" A voice boomed. My heart fell out of my body with fright. Nervously, I turned around to see who gave me such a deadly heart attack.

“Wh...wh...who are you?” I stammered, still recovering from the scare. “I should say the same for you,” he looked down from his glasses so I saw his face for the first time. His skin was pale with wrinkles on his forehead, and in between his eyes and nose on each side.

“I don’t remember seeing you around anywhere.” He narrowed his eyes at, me making me shiver. “Umm, I just arrived. I’m a new student. Is this Cleopatra’s house?” I asked, still quivering. “I’m the Master of this house - Cleopatra’s house. Rule number 1: do NOT go into my office. It’s off limits.” He stared at me.

I slowly backed away. “Mr Todd! Come quick! Someone is on the phone for you.” A female voice called firmly, making him sprint worried.

“Don’t worry! I’ll show u around.” The female voice replied in a sweeter tone as she emerged from the shadows.

She was middle aged woman. She had tanned skin. Her blonde hair was packed up into a messy ponytail. She wore a white polo shirt and a royal blue apron, with a matching blue headband.

She showed me into a room. A cacophony room. The second she put her hands on the door, a series of whispers were heard followed by complete silence. They were sitting down and being productive. “Guys, I’d like to introduce you to your new classmate,” she pushed me forward, “don’t be shy.” In the blink of an eye, she was gone. I stood there speechless. I didn’t want to say the wrong thing.

“Hi, my name is Sophie. This is Adam, Jake and Jessica. What is your name?”

I replied, “Emma. It is nice to meet you guys.” I looked over and smiled at them. I caught Jake staring at me. I blushed. Jessica walked over to me, shook my hand and led me outside. “You look like a nice girl,” I smiled, “so let’s not cause trouble on your first day. Stay away from him if you know what is good for you.” I felt her cold eyes upon me. I looked up at her in the eyes for the first time. I looked over at Jake and back at Jessica. “We’ll see!”

I strode into the room and Sophie followed by the boys, came over to me and welcomed me. I felt tingles in my spine when Jake was next to me.

The day went by so quickly. What a day!
