With Halloween swiftly approaching, London plays host to some of the most terrifying tales, frightening venues and scary history in the UK. Kids with a taste for fancy dress, trick or treating or just a good scare will love this list of the top five coolest things to do in London on All Hallows’ Eve!
LONDON EYE WITCH ACADEMY
If the fright of heights doesn’t stop you then why not head down to one of London’s most emblematic places, the London Eye, which at night transforms into an academy for young witches! Spend the beautifully panoramic ride in one of the green London Eye capsules learning all there is to know about spells and potions, stories of witches and goblins and after you’re trip in the sky you’ll go home with a pointy witch hat and some sweet treats!
BOO AT THE ZOO
On an average day at the zoo you can see at least a few scary animals, just imagine how creepy they get when it’s Halloween! Why not visit the London Zoo during half term as it offers a week-long exhibition of their most ferocious animals! Amongst the many themed activities the zoo offers there is ‘Meet the Rat Pack’, where you can get close and personal with creepy rodents, and ‘Bat Cave’, where spectators can create delicious treats for the Seba’s short-tailed bats that live in the zoo. From howling owls to vicious wolves the zoo’s crazy Halloween week runs from 25 October – 2 November hosting the Boo at the Zoo activities from 11am to 3pm and is a must on anyone’s Halloween list!
GREENWICH MARKET
Friday 31st October head down to Greenwich market for some scary stalls, spooky music and tasty treats for all to enjoy! You can vote for the most terrifying stall holders (and some will be scary!) and at 1pm head to Waterstones where Halloween stories will be told to all you little monsters! If you love getting into the Halloween spirit and dressing up as your favourite spooky characters then take part in their costume workshops for ages four and above, then have your face painted and strut your stuff at their freaky fashion show at four pm, you may even win a prize for best costume!
EPPING ONGAR RAILWAY
After last years’ sell out the number of trains available has doubled for this Halloween! This railway line takes you on a journey in an actual stem-hauled ghost train filled with creepy decorations and spooky surprises, with your very own chance at winning best fancy dress! You can take a shuttle bus from Epping tube station to Ongar and make sure to enjoy the apple bobbing, owl and hawk display and plenty of other activities on your way!
GRANT MUSEUM OF ZOOLOGY
Who hasn’t seen the film Night at a Museum?! What better moment to watch an all-time favourite movie about a museum coming to life at night-time then at UCL’s Grant Museum of Zoology? The museum will hold a night-time screening of the film making it seem even more realistic and, you never know, just maybe the museum’s coolest exhibits will come to life and watch it with you!
