Films to 'Watch' Out for in 2015

Another year, another selection of movies, desperate to break numerous box office records, and to leave as much influence on pop-culture as possible. Some franchise based, some independent, some with high-profile actors, and some with practically unknown performers, here are some of the most anticipated films of 2016;

‘Captain America: Civil War’

Being released on the 29th of April, ‘Captain America: Civil War’ is a culmination several previous Marvel films, acting as finale to Marvel’s ‘Act Two’. The conflict between Captain America and Iron Man, which, in the comic books is based around the conscription of superheroes, is the central focus of the film, and the outcome, whatever it may be, will likely change the Marvel universe, as we know it. Hopefully, this will be a little more interesting than the disappointing “Age of Ultron”, and act as a step forward in the overarching storyline.

Hail, Ceaser!

Release date February 26th, “Hail, Ceaser!” Should hopefully be a little more light-hearted than the previously mentioned film. Starring George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum… the list goes on; this blockbuster is, in the most meta-way possible, a movie about making a movie. When a film star is kidnapped, and another falls pregnant, it is up to Hollywood fixer Eddie Mannix to save the day! Full of laughs, with a big budget, “Hail, Ceaser!” will hopefully be a relief to the cold season.

Trumbo

Okay, so technically “Trumbo” has already been released in America, but it’s release date in England is 29th of January, so, it counts. Similar to “Hail, Ceaser!” Trumbo is also based in Hollywood, but whilst comedic, has a more serious, underlying theme. It discusses the McCarthy trials, and film-writers that suffered through them. Already nominated for several Oscars, hopefully “Trumbo” will live up to expectations.

The BFG

A classic children’s book into a soon-to-be film, “The BFG” will be released on the 22nd of July. An original story by Roald Dahl, now adapted into film, the protagonist Sophie is kidnapped by a giant. But not just any giant; the big, friendly giant! (BFG for short) A heart-warming tale, and fun for all the family, and directed by academy award-winner Steven Spielberg, this is certainly a date to mark in your diary.

Ghostbusters

This, again, is another film which is technically out. Or, at least, the original is. The remake of the classic “Ghostbusters” film, starring four female leads, instead of four male leads, is set to be released in July 2016. Little is fully known about the story, but knowing the comedic stars (Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones), it is set to be a hilariously brilliant film.

Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them

To all those morning the end of the Harry Potter franchise, good news! “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, is yet another instalment in the magical Wizarding world. Set in 1920s America, it follows the story of Newt Scamander, a magical biologist, searching for new species. To be released November 18th, I know that myself, and many other Harry Potter fans, are ridiculously excited.

Moana

Now for the Disney fans; the next Disney Princess is leaping onto our screens on December 2nd of 2015. Moana, a Hawiian native, goes on a quest to find a fabled island, joined by legendary demi-God Maui (played by Dwayne ‘The Rock” Johnson). With beautiful animation, and music by the legendary tony-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda, this is one of the must-sees of 2016!
