Cinderella - 2015 Film
Step back in time to one of Waltz Disney’s most magical and enchanting tales of a young girl called Ella whose life is forever changed after one unexpected evening, and an encounter with a mysterious yet charming stranger. The director, Kenneth Branagh, turns the well known animated story of Cinderella into a captivating and brilliant real-life fairytale, which has the audience stuck to the edge of their seats during the first few minutes of the movie.
After the tragic death of her father, Ella (played by Lily James) is left alone and forced into a life of misery and mistreatment at the hands of her new Step-mother (Cate Blanchett) and two step-sisters who reduce her to scullery maid. Despite her circumstances, she refuses to lose faith and hope. An invitation is announced for a royal ball to be held at the palace for all the maidens in the kingdom, which ignites a sense of hope in Ella that she may once again meet the handsome stranger (Richard Madden). However, due to her beauty, and the jealousy it enrages in her step-mother, she is forced to stay at home and not involve herself in the festivities that were taking place at the palace. However, help arrives in the form of a kind beggar woman who has a magic touch for ordinary things.
I fell in love with the storyline almost instantly, and I would not think twice about watching the story unfold a thousand times over. Lily James is truly sensational as Ella, and Cate Blanchett portrayed the evil step-mother in a way which I had never seen before. I loved yet hated her character at the same time. I recommend this movie to anyone who loves an enthralling tale of magic and deception, and the idea of love conquering all.
