Can you party in secret?

Can you party in secret?

[Sophie comes on stage walking past mum]

SOPHIE: Good afternoon mother. How are thee on this fine day of Saturday? I am just taking a walk - you know, to stretch those… bones …. Um I mean muscles.

MUM: Just where do you think you are going, missy?

[Sophie stops walking and turns to look at mum]

SOPHIE: A walk around the neighbourhood.

MUM: So why are you dressed up like that? You aren’t going to Olivia’s house, right? Because I strictly remember us discussing why you can’t go. I also remember myself giving you a very detailed explanation on why you can’t go.

[Sophie groans]

SOPHIE: But mum!

MUM: Do not make me repeat my explanation because if you can’t remember it then I’ll be glad to repeat it for you. Have you even done your homework? Or have you even cleaned your room?

[Sophie stamps off stage]

MUM: I want the room vacuumed as well. Have it done by dinner.

[Mum grins to herself]

[Sophie creeps downstairs and sneaks out using the back door]

SOPHIE: Hey! Party time!

OLIVIA: I’m so excited that you could make it.

SOPHIE: How could I miss it!

OLIVIA: Come, let’s party!

[Sign says 2 hours later]

SOPHIE: We should not have done that!

OLIVIA: I feel like being sick.

[Shadow appears and people disappear as mum talks]

MUM: Everybody leave or I will call your parents. So how did going to a party behind my back go? As I expected, not well. Both of you, my place - let's go. Olivia text your mum that you’re at my house! Chop! Chop!

[Sign says at home]

MUM: Here take this, you’ll need it.

[Mum finishes stirring the cups and hands them to the girls]

SOPHIE: I’m so sorry! I’ll never do it again. I’d give you a hug but I don’t wanna make you sick too!

MUM: Well you will be sorry when you spend the next 2 weeks in your room grounded.

SOPHIE: But mum!

MUM: But nothing! And don’t think that you are getting away Olivia. Throwing a party when your parents aren’t home! I’m calling your mum!

OLIVIA: WHAT!!! No, that’s not fair! Please I’ll do anything!

MUM: Well both of you are to tidy up this house and Olivia’s house by the time her parents get back which is in an hour. If you complete this, Sophie you are ungrounded and Olivia, you’re parents won’t find out. But if you don’t…

OLIVIA: I get it; Sophie let’s get to work.

[Sign says 1 hour later]

OLIVIA’S MUM: Hi. How was she? Please don’t tell me that she was of any bother?

MUM: No, not at all. But we did learn some life lessons, didn’t we girls?

OLIVIA: Yeah.

SOPHIE: I guess so.

OLIVIA’S MUM: Come on Olivia, let’s go home.

OLIVIA: I’m coming let me go get my bag while you head off into the car.

[Olivia’s parents leave]

OLIVIA: Thanks for taking care of me. I really appreciate you not telling my mum.

MUM: You are welcome. Bye! See you soon!

OLIVIA: Bye!

[Olivia leaves]

SOPHIE: Mum I’m really sorry. I won’t do it again.

MUM: That’s ok. Come let’s have dinner.

[End of scene]
