Royal Baby: Prince George of Cambridge

Royal Baby: Prince George of Cambridge

On Monday 24th July at 16:24, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge, known to most of us as Kate Middleton, gave birth to a baby boy. The baby was born in the private Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, West London surrounded by a carefully chosen medical team and his father Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge.  In addition, the hospital itself was surrounded by well-wishers and journalists, some of whom had been camping out for weeks just waiting for a glimpse of the royal baby.

Needless to say, there was a great cheer when the news was announced outside the hospital, not to mention from the hundreds of people who gathered outside Buckingham Palace to celebrate the royal birth. In keeping with tradition, the news was announced to the public by way of an easel placed in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace; on the easel was a framed document from St Mary’s Hospital.

The document read:

“Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4.24pm today.

Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

The document was then signed by members of the medical team who delivered the baby.

There has been much speculation as to what the young couple will call the new-born Prince but it was not until two days after the birth that the public were told the baby’s name. The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge and is third in line to the throne of England. The baby Prince’s full name is George Alexander Louis, the first name supposedly after the Queen’s father, King George VI as well as being one of the historic royal names passed down through generations.

The Royal family are said to be delighted with the news, particularly Prince Charles, the Duke of Wales as this is his first grandchild. So, as the royals celebrate this new edition to their family, the public rejoice in the birth of the baby boy who will one day be their King.
