2015 is over. The New Year has begun. Whilst reminiscing is certainly enjoyable, it prevents us from looking towards the future; and the horizon is something we should all keep our eyes on. Although we certainly should remember whatever good events of the past year with fondness, here, in no particular order, are ten things to look forwards to for 2016!
Pokémon Go will be released this year! For children, teenagers, and adults alike, this app will offer either an exciting new discovery of a much-loved franchise, or a thoroughly enjoyable trip down memory lane. Whatever your age, if you own an iPhone or android, this free app is certainly something to anticipate!
‘Captain America: Civil War’ will premiere May 6th, 2016, featuring the much publicised Captain America vs. Iron Man plotline. Although having a minor impact in the grand scheme of things, the ever-nearing arrival of this film is a cause of excitement for many fans. Without spoiling anything from the original comic book story, who lives, and who dies, will, without a doubt, affect the overarching plot of the movie franchise.
The 2016 Presidential Election of the United States of America is definitely one of the more important events of the next year. Although, unsurprisingly, a significantly large percentage of the world is not American, the U.S.A is one of the most powerful countries in the world, and whoever sits in the Oval Office will likely, in some way or another, affect your life. Of course, naming no specific candidates, this could be a potential global-disaster, depending on who’s elected. However, there are some nominees, who will, having won, hopefully use that incredible power to make their country, and the world, a better place.
London will no longer hold the Olympic spotlight! The 2016 Olympics, held in Rio de Janero of Brazil, will begin in August of the next year. As a city with an extreme economic divide, hopefully the tourism of the games will bring money to the areas of the city that truly need it. With inspiring new athletes, as well old favourites, no matter where you live, the 2016 Olympics are yet another event to look forward too!
Though a little less exciting than other events of the year, it is worth noting that 2016 is a leap year, meaning that we all get one extra day! Unfortunately, for those still in the education system, the 29th of February 2016 is on a Monday, meaning that school will be one. Nevertheless, this should mean a day-longer break in the summer holidays, or half term! Even if it causes an extra school day, rather than a free day, it still one more day. Another day to enjoy the hopefully wonderful year, that will be 2016!
